On Saturday, May 20th, Big Brothers Big Sisters partnered with the St. Lucie County Aquarium and Jimmy John’s Fort Pierce to bring Big Brothers Big Sisters families a hands on learning experience and family picnic. Big Brothers Big Sisters families did an ocean life scavenger hunt, experienced a touch tank, and explore aquarium exhibits. Families worked together to complete a scavenger hunt and learn about sea creature habitats. Families used microscopes in the discovery room and got to touch sea animals at the touch tank. After fully experiencing the aquarium, families enjoyed a great dinner catered by Jimmy John’s Fort Pierce. With the support of wonderful community partners, the over 60 people in attendance truly made some great memories.
This event, part of the Family Links to Learning program, seeks to bring families together and provide free hands on learning experiences for all involved. We believe that by better connecting families to their community and by giving families meaningful learning experiences, a stronger family connection is created. The Family Links to Learning Program is made possible by the Indian River Community Foundation. Big Brothers Big Sisters parent Sherry P. said, “Sometimes, you just have to make time to do things together as a family.” Life can become very busy and it can become difficult to do things together as a family. Big Brothers Big Sisters believes that when families have meaningful learning experiences together, that the bonds of family become that much stronger. The Family Links to Learning Program provides families with a fun and free way to make family memories!
