On Sunday, December 4th, Big Brothers Big Sisters partnered with Indian River State College Men’s Basketball Team and Subway #52630 to bring Big Brothers Big Sisters matches a day to remember. Big Brothers Big Sisters matches got to meet the Indian River State College Men’s Basketball Team and learn what it takes to be a college athlete. Matches participated in a mock practice with the team and played some half-court basketball. After practice, everyone sat down and enjoyed a healthy Subway#52630 lunch together. Players and coaches spoke to matches about proper diet and exercise. Sophomore guard Willy Nunez told children, “Athletes don’t drink soda.” Everything the players said about healthy eating and exercise was truly taken to heart by the children in attendance. We are grateful for the players and the great example that they set for children in our community. Everyone in the community plays a role in supporting our children and making sure they make healthy life choices. Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach, Walt Belcher, states, “If we can affect the life of one child, all of the work is worth it.” We could not agree with you more coach Belcher.

History of Earth Day
Earth Day was founded in 1970 as a day of education about environmental issues, the brainchild of Senator Gaylord Nelson and inspired by the antiwar protests of the late 1960s.
