On Saturday, January 14th, Big Brothers Big Sisters partnered with the Vero Beach Museum of Art to bring Big Brothers Big Sisters families a wonderful day filled with inspiration and creation. Big Brothers Big Sisters families were taken on a tour of the museum where they were treated to world class galleries including; The View Out of His Window by Jeffrey C. Becton and Object/ Shadow by Larry Kagan. After the tour, parents and children created paintings that represented their own uniqueness. The Vero Beach Museum of Art provided an outstanding instructor, Christine Thomas, who worked diligently with adults and children to make sure everyone took home a beautiful work of art. After painting, families enjoyed a great lunch provided by Jimmy John’s of Vero Beach. Families capped off a great day by taking a group picture in the Vero Beach Museum of Art’s atrium. Families all took home art kits including; paint sets, paint brushes, colored pencils, and chalk.
This event, part of the Family Links to Learning program, seeks to bring families together and provide free hands on learning experiences for all involved. The Family Links to Learning program is made possible by the Indian River Community Foundation. Big Brothers Big Sisters parent, Sandra J-W., says, “It really was a wonderful day. If was great for the children to experience something that they might not have ever done and great for parents to socialize as well. My children are still talking about the event and have been asking me when they can go back.”
